VicRoads

VicRoads says Victorian drivers must update their address within 14 days of moving. Check the licence, vehicle registration and postal address records in your account.

Electoral enrolment

The Australian Electoral Commission says you are eligible to enrol at a new address after living there for at least one month. Keep your enrolment details current through the AEC.

Important mail

Redirect mail, then update each sender.

Australia Post offers personal mail redirection from an old address to a new address. Redirection can catch letters while you work through the list, but it does not update the address held by a bank, insurer, government agency or subscription.

Include every relevant name when arranging the service, then keep a note of organisations that still send mail to the old address. Update those accounts directly and check that saved delivery addresses in shopping and payment apps are correct.

One useful Medicare check

Check who shares the card.

Services Australia says that updating a Medicare postal address online updates it for everyone on that Medicare card. If the new postal address does not apply to everyone, follow its instructions about obtaining a separate card before making the change.

For safety or privacy concerns, use the options provided by the relevant agency rather than relying on mail redirection alone.

When should I update VicRoads after moving?

VicRoads currently says to update your address within 14 days. Use the official VicRoads page for the current process.

When can I update my electoral enrolment?

The AEC currently says you are eligible to enrol at the new address after you have lived there for at least one month.

Does mail redirection change my address with organisations?

No. It forwards eligible mail; you still need to update each organisation’s records directly.

Does AA update any of these records for me?

No. AA can help with the furniture move covered by your booking. Government, financial, utility and postal address changes remain your responsibility.
